Homeopathy Professional Associations Respond to Lancet, Goldacre Bias

Professional Homeopathic Associations are responding to Lancet and pharmaceutical representative Ben Goldacre’s attack against homeopathy.

This is the second go round for Lancet and in their previous attack on homeopathy the information was accepted almost as fact. This time the news media is reporting it in a different way.

For example the BBC web site also states under the title ‘Research Bias’:

However, the Lancet also reports that a draft report on homoeopathy by the World Health Organization says the majority of peer-reviewed scientific papers published over the past 40 years have demonstrated that homeopathy is superior to placebo in placebo-controlled trials.       

Lancet and The Religion of Conventional Medicine is not in the Public’s Interest.

The most disturbing thing about the recent Lancet article by Ben Goldacre written to discredit homeopathy is one paragraph. Basically this man had the gall to say that by taking Vioxx off the market this action proved that the cadre of medical practitioner and pharmaceutical companies could self regulate and self correct whereas homeopaths cannot. I say to this man- “Go tell this to the thousands that suffered serious side effects from this drug and the spouses, families of those that died from it!” It took years before Vioxx was removed from the market.This is safe medicine? Common sense has been thrown out the window when we discuss modern medicine.

Why is someone in a biomedical journal like Lancet allowed to make outrageous statements like these? Because modern medicine is a religion which requires a suspension of rationality. And also because these statements were in an article about homeopathy. Even more rationality is taken away when discussing homeopathy.

My feeling is that homeopathy is so threatening to medicine’s apologists that they will do anything to discredit homeopathy, even publish and discuss a study in Lancet that is so flawed as to make expert statisticians and researchers cringe from its rottenness.Homeopathy goes to the heart of medicine’s deception and religiosity and lack of scientific consistency. Homeopathy has consistent principles which are applied to each patient equally. This is something that is not present in modern medicine. Not only that, it has no side effects.

So in an effort to take away the heat from their own deficiencies (which anyone with any common sense can see) and to sell journal subscriptions they are distorting the facts about homeopathy. Such as accusing homeopathy of being dangerous or saying there are not any scientific studies to support it when there are hundreds! Then the “skeptics” or those supporting bad science and closed minded thinking attack homeopathy- but they are simply the troops irrationally hoping that their drug supplies will not run out by homeopathy’s success.  

Not only that, homeopathy may actually take away many of the modern toxicities that we are exposed to, including modern medicines. A recent article in New Scientist discusses how a homeopathic remedy reduced arsenic toxicity in mice.

Look at the amount of iatrogenic effect of modern medicine and look at the non-existent side effects of homeopathy. This would actually be a much better study to do, that is, comparing side effects, but this would go to the heart of the religion of modern medicine. It requires suffering and as a society we are now used to hearing that to get better you must suffer-any medication that is any good has side effects. So like many religions medicine states that suffering is an important part of getting better. And like many religions being non-critical of the high priests is essential. Perhaps homeopathy’s startling lack of suffering side effect is just too new a concept and experience and therefore puts it way outside the control of the high priests of medicine.

The Society of Homeopaths Wins this Blog’s Gold Standard Award

The Society of Homeopaths in the United Kingdom has been at the forefront of modern homeopathy. Under increasing attacking by those who believe in bad science, the Society has taken the high road and insisted on quality responses and continues its role in helping to develop some of the world’s top homeopaths. The Society of Homeopaths also sponsors conferences and seminars to upgrade the professional knowledge of its members. The Society of Homeopaths recently had Louis Klein FS Hom lecture in Oxford and also has had such important speakers as Rajan Sankaran and Jeremy Sherr.

Most importantly this organization is concerned about both the public and its members. It is important as a member of the public to support it since organizations like this prevent a monopolization of medicine by one interest group. Even if you aren’t into homeopathy, supporting this organization will continue to increase the level of health freedom and impart a message- the time for unquestioning belief in modern medicine’s safety and the conventional doctor’s ability to monitor the serious side effects of pharmaceutical drugs is over. The religion of conventional medicine is not in the public’s interest.

In one of the most bizarre things ever seen on the Internet there are actually individuals on the internet and blogs who are not even into homeopathy but spend inordinate amounts of time criticizing and “watching” the society. I would say its more like whining about the Society of Homeopaths and homeopathy in general.

They second guess everything a Society of Homeopath’s official says or does. You would think they would get a life. But they feel compelled to carry on the tradition of English bullying and absurdity. Hinkley, Gimpy et al. first complain that the Society is not strong enough and tough enough and then when the Society of Homeopaths actually take legal action against such vitriol, nastiness and unethical, illegal actions by a blogger these detractors complained it was too strong. Oh well, you can’t satisfy bizarre marginal members of society that talk ethics yet support such unethical actions.
