Gimpy Blows His Cover- He Says He Wants to Humiliate and Condemn Homeopaths

If you’ve noticed, on this blog, I have been asking the bad science cult members what their true intentions are. The obfuscated ‘innocent’ response I get is that ‘we just want to debate this issue in the public domain’. I have responded that I could perceive a different motivation or intention. They responded no, we just want to be civil and have open debate.

Well on Goodscience blog “Gimpy”, the most vocal and prolific Bad Science cult member and writer, (he has his own blog) has shown his true intention:

In a discussion on philosophies of treatment and homeopathic treatment Gimpy blasted “… then fully expect to be criticised, humiliated and condemned. “

The claim that all the bad science cult members want to do is open, civil debate is, as I’ve said on this blog, disingenuous and bullshit. The real intention is to humiliate and condemn anyone who doesn’t hold their belief that science is the end all and beginning of the universe.

If it looks like an inquisition, it is an inquisition. Touting pure science, (especially the idea that it can only be my idea of what pure science is) above all else smacks of fundamentalism and religious zeal-a religion of intolerance and condemnation.

Ben Goldacre and Bad Science Deputies Destroys Frog-Whisperers’ Ring

frog21.jpgBen Goldacre has announced that he and his bad science deputies have busted a Frog-Whispering ring. “After two years of following these two Frog-Whisperers we finally got them hands down promising they could cure warts by talking with their frogs.”

It was a concerted effort by over 20 bad science deputies. One deputy, named Simpson, wearing a white hood to protect his real identity, ponderously expressed the sentiment of the whole team, “Ve must protect the purity of science. Ve’re a real team. Ve worked so hard and well together. Ve ended up swarming the two and catching them up. How exilerating.”

He added, “Sometimes ve had to have 24 hour surveillance but I still managed to take my medications.” (He went on to present a long technical explanation about the science of hunting down certain types of practitioners with graphs etc., but this reporter failed to stay awake for it).

The 20 deputies spent two years undercover in order to find the whisperers and their frogs and bring them to justice, bad science justice. The Frog-Whisperers are now being held in a Spanish Catholic church basement prison cell. Co-incidentally, they are in the same cells that were used during the inquisition.

Goldacre clarified the problem: “There are no double blind placebo controlled studies on Frog-Whispering- we thought it was time to bring them to justice.”

A Mr. Gimpy, a very important person and spokesman for the bad science sheriff’s department stated: “Over the last two years, I’ve been spending all my time examining the Society of Frog Whispering code of ethics. The said Frog-Whisperers claimed they could cure fly infestations with their frogs so I have formally complained to their ethics committee. There are no studies that show that. But they don’t answer my calls.”

Gimpy continued, his voice quivering, “Ve must, for the sake of the public, make sure ve humiliate and condemn the frogs and the whisperers.”

Unfortunately, the frogs were immediately killed and put into formaldehyde and stored in a lab. A lab spokesman stated that “The proper use for frogs is for scientific purposes only.”

The spokeswoman for the Society of Frog-Whisperers was not available for comment so Ben Goldacre had the final croak- “We have to keep it clear that frog whispering is bad for the general public and prevents people from seeking real medical help. It prevents people from getting their ugly warts burned off the proper way- with acid, real acid but applied scientifically. It also prevents the professional exterminator dealing with my terrible fly problem I’ve been having lately and doing their job with the proper chemicals.”

Never one for few words, he added, “So we are glad to have scientifically eliminated the frogs and brought the Whisperers to justice, bad science justice.

Weekend Round Up: Yahoo! and Why are the Bad Science Cult members so Docile?

My interest in this blog and other blogs on homeopathy pro and con is not so much to prove that it works, but the political implications of a marginal reactionary group rising to any political prominence. My interest also tied in with my adult life long positive results with homeopathy for myself and family and my interest in politics.

Thanks for the ride this last week! And its been an interesting ride to see a marginal milieu perseverate so intensely about such a small force as homeopathy, ( literally nothing) and occasionally throw out socio-political sparks like in the case of Ben Goldacre’s public shrieks.

The most shocking discovery, though, was one about docility and multiplicity. This is why I concluded they were a cult. I could see an almost complete loss of individuality in responses and repetition of such similar lines of thought and questioning. I thought I was receiving responses from one person. At one point, I could only think about the movie the Matrix and wanted to get to the oracle, to the key keeper or a telephone. They were multiplying!

The docility was especially expressed in any discussion where there was mention about modern medicine and the modern pharmaceutical industry. When I received their missives and read their pleadings for modern medicine and the pharmaceutical industry and polite, force filled ranting against the science of homeopathy, (OK ’science’ of homeopathy) I felt like I had to resist being induced into some sort of benzodiazopine or opiated trance.

The bad science cult seemed to be made up of individuals that called themselves skeptics yet all, without exception, went on about how pharmaceutical medicine is the darling of science and mankind even though it has a few minor problems. You’d think we had CURED all diseases of the world with modern medicine and the kind hearted pharmaceutical industry had spread their joy over the whole world -even third world countries! Yahoo. We’re floatin’ on a cloud of a benign and a benevolent modern saviour. It rose and rises to a religious pitch.

The problem is that somehow this translates “science” into a religious and reactionary socio-political phenomena. It is also an ultra-conservative manifestation. Like all of these type of manifestations there has to be a scapegoat- the devil and an angel. In this case the angel is modern pharmaceutical medicine and the devil is homeopathy. The missives seem to be calling for a pogrom against homeopaths. Will it be successful?

Adieu. Til next week…

More to come next week…

Ben Goldacre- The Illusionist and His Belief that the Medical Consumer is an Idiot

Ben Goldacre would have us believe the illusion that medicine is harmless and homeopathy is harmful. A remarkable flip of reality. But then illusionists can do this. He likes to pick and choose the homeopaths he quotes and focuses on while ignoring the many thousands of level headed ones that don’t make outrageous claims or that work with conventional medical doctors. As well, if we were to take claims by physicians and pharmaceutical companies over the years and the failure of those claims to materialize and then tally the iatrogenic effects of those treatments we could clearly see the illusion and the real harm of modern medicine.

Focusing on just a few studies rather than the hundreds out there, he states that homeopathy is no better than placebo. Another illusion.

The positive claims by homeopaths pale in comparison to the ones we see advertised in conventional medicine( that never seem to materialize) that Goldacre and bad science would have us believe are all rational and true. They repeat that there is no danger in getting a vaccine, in taking malaria medicine ( if you don’t mind the possibility of getting murderous psycosis as a side effect), and that there is no danger in modern medicine period. That vioxx and other medications like that were just a blip in the modern medicine show, (thousands were affected and many died!)

The negative effects of homeopathy are so ridiculously low in comparison, (in fact non-existent statistically- show me a statistic) to anything that allopathic medicine can do that you’d wonder why all the fuss. The fuss is that there is a concerted effort to take away your ability to choose the health care you want or deserve. There is a concerted effort to make sure that responsibility for medical malfeasance and pharmaceutical company’s deficiencies do not rest on the perpetrators.

Goldacre’s assumption is that you as a consumer are an idiot and you will do dangerous things! That if the high priests of medicine and pharmacy aren’t in charge and the high priests of the cult of badscience and “rational thought” don’t protect you, you can’t protect yourself. You will do something dangerous and insane like, like…my gosh…trying an alternative medical treatment or seeing a homeopath! And then you will take a homeopathic remedy! This is even more terrible because there is no side effect and you’ll feel better. But because you are not in a laboratory or double blind study- they will try to convince you it didn’t really work for you, hey, you are just an idiot.

Thousands have been happy with homeopathy for the treatment of their serious diseases and conditions, many after running the gamut of modern medicine. And thousands more will be happy with homeopathy. The illusionists are at work and I trust the consumer’s intelligence to see through the idiocy of Ben Goldacre and the cult of skeptic bad science.

Bad Science Cult Plans Another Attack on Homeopathy

Definition of a Cult:

1. followers of an exclusive system of religious beliefs and practices
2. an interest followed with exaggerated zeal

Developing the Cult of Badscience:

  • Find marginalized individuals who have lots of time on their hands and are ready to become mesmerized by a particular belief system.
  • Have them believe that they are independant thinkers when in fact they have to repeat the same words of other cult members- over and over again.
  • Brainwash themselves into thinking bad science, closed formal systems is good science and all else is “delusional”.
  • Make sure they are stripped of emotional feelings including compassion, understanding and human values. All these things are simply “woo” and “dangerous”.
  • Create demons and devils that threaten the cult such as homeopathy, homeopaths and homeopathic organizations.
  • Have the followers spend inordinate amounts of time studying the moves and minutia of said “devils” and make sure they attack them with zeal
  • Make sure members of cult reward the heroic efforts of other cult members with praise
  • Have the leaders of the cult well funded.

In any case, the Bad Science cult plans more attacks on the Society of Homeopaths and Homeopaths. “The code of ethics must be enforced” Yes, force is what it is all about. Its hard to tell a cult member devoided of empathy that compassion, understanding is part of a good organization and that dealing with human beings whether patients or practitioners requires compassion and human understanding.

Barium Award for the Most Outrageous Comment Made on a Blog

This has to be the most outrageously funny comment made on a Blog:

“As to recorded deaths, Homeopaths are responsible for over 10 million recorded deaths each year in the USA alone.”

This was made in a very serious discussion about the Society of Homeopaths in the UK on a blog run by a guy named Gimpy and said by a contributor “NASH” who appears to be one of his regular scientific advisors.

Gimpy and NASH should immediately tell the authorities in the United States about this. It seems that this fact has inadvertantly slipped through the US government’s radar.

I’m sure Gimpy has a slide show to back up the assertion and all the bad science bloggers will ask homeopaths to prove that there aren’t ten million dying.

I can just hear the mantra down the halls of bad science blogs: “Show me a study(!), an experiment(!) that shows there aren’t 10 million per year dying from homeopathy in the US alone.”

Oh no, then what about Italy and Holland! Dare I ask about the UK? Tell us how many there!

Homeopathy Professional Associations Respond to Lancet, Goldacre Bias

Professional Homeopathic Associations are responding to Lancet and pharmaceutical representative Ben Goldacre’s attack against homeopathy.

Link here to read their responses:

 European Council of Classical Homeopathy

European Committee for  Homeopathy

This is the second go round for Lancet and in their previous attack on homeopathy the information was accepted almost as fact. This time the news media is reporting it in a different way.

For example the BBC web site also states under the title ‘Research Bias’:

However, the Lancet also reports that a draft report on homoeopathy by the World Health Organization says the majority of peer-reviewed scientific papers published over the past 40 years have demonstrated that homeopathy is superior to placebo in placebo-controlled trials.
